West Hollywood Edition

West Hollywood Edition preserves a current-site example involving soldier piles, lagging, tiebacks, corner bracing, and a secant pile wall segment.

Project context

Project profile for West Hollywood Edition, preserving current site content about excavation support on Sunset and Doheny.

The Edition hotel brand came to West Hollywood through a partnership of developers Steve Witkoff and Howard Lorber. Cefali & Associates designed the excavation for the project.

Located on the southeast side of Sunset and Doheny, excavation for the below-grade levels varied from 9 feet up to 50 feet.

A soldier pile and lagging system was used. Tiebacks braced most piles, with corner bracing at select locations to avoid obtaining easements from neighbors.

A small segment consisted of a secant pile wall with walers and high-capacity tieback anchors to hold back an enormous billboard.
