Columbia Square

Columbia Square preserves a current-site example of deep excavation support, steep anchors, corner bracing, and rakers around historic structures.

Project context

Project profile for Columbia Square, preserving current site content about a deep Sunset CBS property redevelopment excavation.

Kilroy Realty's Columbia Square redevelopment of the old Sunset CBS property took the project 60 feet below the old media grounds.

Narrow street widths required tiebacks to extend below the streets from property line to property line. Deep utilities were skirted with steep anchors and long spans, with up to five rows of tiebacks used.

While historic structures underwent refurbishment, corner braces and rakers helped the contractor mitigate a network of three tieback rows used beneath buildings in three directions.
