Project context
Project profile for Glendale Community College, preserving current site content about permanent shoring wall design for a hillside campus science building.
Working for the project architect, HMC, Cefali & Associates endeavored to create a permanent shoring wall that would relieve earth pressure from the proposed new science building.
The temporary retained heights allowed for excavation of the new building's foundations, including drilled piles.
The necessity and vision of the architect for terracing up the hillside created unique corner conditions. Close coordination with the building structural engineer, Saiful Bouquet, helped work through many complex scenarios.
The project was reviewed and approved by DSA. The project was managed by Gafcon and the shoring was installed by Shoring Engineers.
