1201 S. Hope is useful proof for shoring redesign, high-rise residential excavation support, and Metro-adjacent coordination.

Project context

Project profile for 1201 S. Hope, supporting shoring redesign and Metro-adjacent excavation support content.

1201 S. Hope is a Downtown Los Angeles South Park mixed-use residential high-rise project with a seven-level podium and 38-story and 30-story residential towers.

Cefali came in to redesign the shoring system for the five-level, 55-foot garage. The mat foundations varied in thickness up to 120 inches.

The tieback-braced shoring accommodated Metro light rail at Pico Station while keeping deflections down to half an inch.

Revit was used to coordinate three rows of ties at the reentrant corner so cased tieback shafts could be drilled with ease. The shoring contractor tested all tiebacks, including high-capacity pile-in-wall tiebacks.
